Homemade Eggless Cooker Cake

So this is the last day of this year. My daughter was after me to make a cake at home. And I had promised myself to try my hand at making cake during this year.

Finally I did it! Before the end of this year....
It is an achievement for me, plz don't laugh while reading this...
Though it looks very ordinary still I want to share it with you.

Pillsbury Eggless Cooker Cake made it possible for me.

As recommended on the packet, I stirred 3/4th cup of milk, two spoon oil and the mix provided thoroughly for 2 minutes. Then poured it in a greased vessel. The same vessel was placed in the cooker as instructed and was cooked on low flame for 35 minutes without whistle. I used timer in my mobile so that I do not get occupied anywhere else. As my mobile buzzed, I opened the lid of cooker and checked through knife test.

The cake was ready (to my surprise:))
My daughter was delighted. Then both of us decorated this cake with chocolate sauce and gems. This cake is small part of our New Year celebrations with kids. It is sometimes very pleasurable and sweet as well to act kiddish.

Till now I was good at homemade sweet dishes such as Gajar Ka Halwa. Now I hope I will continue the effort and make some great cakes as well in future ( actually this one is part of my new year resolutions for 2015 which I will share soon with you.)

If you also have similar story then please share here with us. We will be glad to know your experiences!

Prosperous 2015.

New Year Celebrations with Kids

Again time has come to enter the New Year with celebrations, hope and happiness. It is time to bid adieu to the year gone by and keep only pleasant moments with us leaving behind the setbacks.
In this new voyage, participation of kids is equally important coz they are crucial part of our family.
Celebrating the transition from this year to next year with kids can be fun, entertaining, inspiring and unforgettable too!
Here are some ideas to involve kids in New Year Celebrations:

Revisit the memory lane
Go through the videos and pictures of happy moments you shared with your family. Ask your kids to describe their best moments and may be put them on paper. Else you can ask them to make a collage of photos of best moments of the year. It is truly a happy way to end the year.

Playing games of own childhood
You can share your ways of enjoyment with kids. Tell kids about the indoor/ outdoor games you used to play and have a good time playing the forgotten games. Kids do love to know more about the childhood of their parents and that is surely going to be fun for all of you!

Decorating the house for celebrations
Entrust your kids with decorations of the house or a part of room. That ways they will feel important and enthusiastic whole day! Provide them decorative things and fresh flowers along with some ideas depending upon their age and let them show off their creativity in safe zone.

New Year resolutions with kids
You can discuss the new year resolutions of the kids. The resolutions may depend upon the hits and misses the kids had in the year gone by. You may help them to choose their goals depending upon the phase they are going through in their lives.

Having a blast with friends and family
Invite close friends and family members to join you in new year celebrations. That would be a wonderful way to kick start the new year. Take clues and ideas from your kids on what to eat, play, gift and how to celebrate on the New Year eve or on the first day of the new year.

It would be ideal to let kids try their hands in kitchen to help you. Meanwhile you may also order some delicacies from online food stores to save the time.
You may either keep an afternoon party in your backyard if the kids are too young. On the other hand, older kids will definitely enjoy the late night blast on new year.

Hope these ideas would help you to celebrate New Year with kids. Have a great start and stay healthy!

Tomato soup recipe

Hello everyone,

Vegetable Soups are my favorite especially the tomato soup. My family is also a big fan of this one.  Its filled with goodness of tomatoes and other ingredients which I always include.

Here is my recipe of tomato soup which you can also relish:

Ingredients: 7-8 red and ripe tomatoes, 3-4 carrots, some french beans, few leaves of cabbage and ginger (optional).
Salt, black pepper powder, butter, sugar, coriander leaves for garnishing.

Kids would never come to know that you have added so many veggies to the tomato soup! Add these along with tomato and provide your family maximum advantage of vegetables.

Wash all the vegetables. Peel off the carrots and cut them roughly. Now cut all the vegetables into large pieces and place them in a cooker. Put half cup of water, one small spoon of salt and place the lid. Boil them for some time. After 3-4 minutes of one whistle of cooker, switch off the flame.

store soup in glass jar and freeze

Now let the vegetables cool down. Make a puree of the boiled vegetables in a mixer/ food processor and strain them. Now you get a thick paste which you can either use to prepare soup or store in a glass jar and freeze for future use.

In a pan, put some thick paste of soup and some water. Add some sugar and black pepper powder according to your taste. ( Note: I prefer sweet-salty taste so I have added some sugar. In case you like the tangy flavor, then do not use sugar.) Bring it to a boil and then serve in a soup bowl. Do not forget to add some cubes of butter ( avoid butter if you wish to lose weight) and leaves of coriander.

Serve the yummy tomato soup quickly and enjoy with your family in winter evenings.

Veg, Talumein Soup
Another Chinese soup which is filled with lots of vegetables, spices and sauces! What sets it apart from other soups is use of noodles. Kids love to eat and drink the soup because of noodles.

Protection of Kids during Rains

Rainy season is always associated with cool and breezy atmosphere. Everyone welcomes the rain with smile and cheer. Especially kids like to make paper boats and sail them in rainwater. However, there is another aspect of all this enjoyment.

Children hardly bother about their hygiene. They splash dirty rainwater on each other. They like to spend hours in the rain that is a major cause of concern for parents. Prolonged wetness is not at all good for the health of kids. They may invite cold and other serious infections.

Lack of hygiene can lead to stomach infection and gastroenteritis. It can cause severe setback to the health of the affected child. Sometimes, children forget to wash their dirty hands and this helps in catching the infection faster. In rainy season, carelessness can prove to be fatal and therefore, parents need to take extra precaution in this regard. A simple practice like washing hands after using washroom and before eating is mandatory to keep stomach problems and other infections at bay.

Eye infection is yet another outcome of careless approach in rainy season. Most of the people face rain with their open eyes. This may result in serious infection of eyes. It is extremely crucial to safeguard the eyes and to keep them shut while taking a bath in rains. Moreover, washing the eyes frequently is an easy way to avoid any problem.

During rains, viruses are in the air. Water-borne and air-borne diseases can strike young kids and adults as well. The parents should follow some necessary guidelines to protect the whole family from serious diseases:

  • Always use medicinal soap to fight germs and infections. Ask children to wash their hands when they return home.
  • To keep the body clean and germ free, bath in dirty rainwater must be followed by shower at home.
  • Try to keep kids as clean as possible.
  •  Make them wear breathable and dry clothing.
  •  Encourage kids to wear gum boots and rain coats to avoid long hours of wetness.

Summer Activities for Father and Kids

Why should mothers have all the fun?  Moms do take out kids for play and enjoyment. Fathers are not behind either. Even if they have limited time to spend with their kids, Dads can spend quality time with kids and have a blast! Here are some interesting Summer Activities for Fathers out there that will keep kids asking for more, sure:

Dip in the pool
Take kids for a swim in the nearby pool. If that is not possible, make a splash pool in your own backyard, fill it with water and water toys and start splashing water on each other. There can be no other way to beat the sun in style and have unlimited fun too.

Sports activities
Playing ball with Papa is so much fun. Kids get to learn more while being safe under the wings of their Father. If kids are quite older then a trip to nearby gym, tennis court, sports stadium or jogging on the track can be fun. Moreover, take a membership of a sports club and visit as often as possible with adults-to-be kids.

Chef in the kitchen
Challenge the lady of the house with some delicious dishes made by Daddy dear. Let Papa do all the chopping and cooking while kids help him in deciding the menu, finding ingredients and setting the table.

Shopping spree with Papa
For a change, Fathers can take the kids for shopping and eating out too! Let the kids prepare their list and Daddy will fulfill their command. (Mothers, meanwhile can head to saloon for overdue beauty treatments!)

Indoor games
On Sundays or other holidays, it will be fun to play board games such as snakes and ladders, chess, Monopoly, Uno etc.,with Dad. Printable games are other options that will keep Father-kids occupied whole day while mothers can take a nap.

Outdoor fun
Long drive, visit to museum, historical building or garden, or camping out with father are outdoor activities that kids will remember for long. Not only this will provide bonding time with kids, it will also give father relief from daily routine.

Visit down the memory lane
Photo albums bring back the memories of childhood. Instead of going through your child's album, let the kids watch the pictures of their father of younger times. In addition, uncover the old school certificates/ awards/ mementos to your kids to let them discover the hidden aspects/ talent of their father. Tell them about your dreams, passions, achievements and even embarrassments- in short let kids explore the more fragile/ innocent side of their father.

Benefits of Playing Chess for Kids

Chess is not just any other indoor game. Besides, a good time-pass for kids and adults, the game has plenty of advantages that makes it a compulsory activity for kids. One can safely term chess as  "brain stimulating game" because of following reasons:

Choose chess to improve concentration
The game of chess requires full focus and any distraction can cause a valuable piece on the board. To win the game a player needs to pay complete attention to the moves of the game and act accordingly. Thus chess sharpens the concentration of the players.

Chess develops critical thinking and logic
The kid learns cause and effect relation. He or she gets to know the effect of the move or action taken in the game. In order to win, thus, the child has to foresee the probable future moves after he/ she makes the move which can lead to win or loss. Chess, therefore, develops logical ability as well as critical thinking.

Playing chess fosters originality
Chess players develop original thinking and creativity to invent new variations and patterns in the game.

Chess improves memory
Besides, enhancing concentration, chess also improves memory of the players. The former reinforces the latter as one player plays the game more and more.

Playing chess inculcates independence
Players of chess have to take decisions about the game independently by using own ideas, thoughts and experiences. Hence to develop independence in children, chess is a valuable learning tool.

Chess teaches relation between dedication and outcome
Kids learn to relate between the hard work and outcome. The more they practice, the more they learn the game. The direct relation between dedication and results gets established in their minds.

Chess, being an indoor game, can be played anywhere and anytime among all age groups. It is easy to carry while on travel. So there is no dull moment when your favorite chess game is with you!

Magic of a hug

Hugging has magical powers. You don't believe this. If you don't then for once go ahead and give a tight hug to your kid and feel the difference. You cannot express that in words but you will feel what a HUG can do to you and to your child.

Many of us do not give value to hugging. In fact, in some cultures, hugging kids often is considered as a way to pamper him/ her and spoiling the child in long run. However, it is not so. On the contrary, hugging has several health benefits. It has magical benefits on both the parties.

Hugging is important for child development.
Babies feel emotionally secure and loved  when they are close to the body of their  parents. Complete child development includes mental growth too. Kids who are deprived of  touch and affection are likely to be emotionally weak in comparison to kids who are loved and hugged often.

Hug generates positive vibes.
When you hug your child, he is filled with love, laughter, affection, confidence and positivism. It applies to you too! Hug generates positive emotions in the related brain cells and creates an optimistic atmosphere around the people.

Hug means acceptance.
When you hug someone you mean that you are embracing him/ her despite of his flaws, mistakes or weaknesses. Kids need such assurance that though they fail to match your high expectations, they are still loved. When you  give a hug to your disobedient son/ daughter, you mean that you may not like his/ her behavior but you still love him/ her like before. Forgive and forget your child's mistake with a hug.

Hug a day keeps stress away.
Hug is the gateway to happiness and optimism. It instantly reduces stress of children as well as yours. Go ahead and give a nice hug to your children.

Hug has medicinal properties.
Yes, of course. Give a hug when your child is ill, in pain or sad, and see the positive change in his health. When you connect to him via hug, he gets charged up, energized and relaxed.

Strengthen your bond with your kids through hugging.
If you want to fill the gap between your kids then take a step and embrace them now. Hugging strengthens the bond and makes a relationship more beautiful and worthy.
