Holi-Popular festival among kids

Holi- the colorful festival of India

Holi is the most popular festival among kids in India. One can witness the excitement in kids everywhere, days before the festival actually comes. Water guns, water balloons, colors and unlimited fun on the streets portray the actual scenario of holi.

Holi is considered as the festival of gaiety and joy. It is the time to leave behind animosity and embrace new relations. The festival has though changed in its form, yet the essence continues to be the same. Natural colors and traditional pichkaris have transformed into synthetic colors and latest water guns. However, the spirit is the same that of fun, feast and festivity.

Here are some tips that can make Holi more memorable for you and your kids without any damage to anybody.

Use natural colors for Holi. These are skin friendly, unlike synthetic colors.

Prepare colors at home using dried flowers such as hibiscus and marigold. You may also use tomatoes, turmeric, besan, henna, and sandalwood to create healthy and safe colors for the festival.
Mix these colors with a bucket full of water and fill your water guns and balloons. Now you are all set to enjoy the Holi.

Apply body lotion or coconut oil on the skin and oil on your head. It would prevent the damaging effects of synthetic colors on the skin.

Wear old clothes while going out for Holi celebrations as most likely the clothes would not be in wearable state afterward. Also, one should wear full sleeved clothes to protect the skin as much as possible.

Besides, involve kids in making rangoli and cleaning the house.

Sweets are an integral part of Indian festivals. Prepare them at home or order them and let the kids gorge on them as much as they like.

Share the historical story behind this festival with kids. Encourage kids to watch the updates on television about the celebration of Holi in different regions of India. It is surely so much fun and informative as well.

To remove color stains from skin use warm water and ubtan. Mix besan, turmeric, and milk/ curd to make ubtan and use it as a scrub. It is a safe way to cleanse the skin and remove stains.

Last but not least; educate kids not to be overpowering on others who wish a peaceful Holi.

Have a memorable and colorful Holi to all of you!

Celebrate Womanhood

It is the day to remind everyone that world is incomplete without women. Men need to know their life is incomplete and meaningless without women. Even women need to realize and believe that they are the lifeline of many lives. What are you going to do to make this day special for the women in your life?

Call them up and wish them. I am already doing that. I have wished my mother, sister, sister-in- laws, mother-in-law and female friends. What about you?

Send them beautiful flowers on this occasion and let them know what you feel for them.

Write a card for them or send an e-card on this day.

Go out with your women friends/ colleagues/ relatives for lunch or for a get together and have a great time.

Organize a party at home and invite the important women of your life to have some good time. Treat them with fantastic drinks, snacks, have a round of interesting games and let the music flow.

Buy a special gift for your mother or best friend or your school teacher to express your gratitude for them.

Remember to shower your love on your daughter as you mean the world for her and she is definitely the apple of your eyes.

Have a great day once again!

Teaching children to respect women

We all want to instill good values in our children. One of the crucial values that are sometimes overlooked is to respect woman. Often, kids grow up with skewed opinion about women. They do not understand the value of women in their lives and show disrespect towards them. Sometimes, it also leads to violence and crimes against women. It is important to teach kids to respect women and to treat them nicely. Here are some ways to inculcate the value of respecting women in kids from early stage:

Be a role model. Children imitate the attitude and behavior of their parents. Show respect towards women and treat them amicably. Kids will definitely learn the same behavior.

Respect your kid’s opinion. When you actually pay attention to your child and respect his opinion/ preferences, he is likely to develop the same value for you and people in general. Most likely, he would respect the opinion and preferences of other people around him including women.

Be kind towards women in general. Help out the women in need and older women. Offer your seat to a needier woman or help someone to cross the road. These small but kind actions evoke kind attitude among children.

Make same rules for your daughter as well as son. Teach both of them to be responsible, polite and kind.

Demonstrate the importance of women in your life. Share your feelings/ views about the importance of women in your life. She can be your mother, sister, wife, friend, daughter, niece or aunt. It is good to discuss your experiences and positive views with your children about the women in your life.

Discuss the role of famous women from history who had contributed immensely in their field. For example Madam Curie, Sunita Williams or any other famous feminine figures of your state, etc.

On this International Women’s Day, remember to thank and appreciate every woman in your life. Include kids also in this act.
Let this gratitude and respect towards women prevail throughout the year and does not restrict to one day only.

Reinforce your bond with your Mother
